At SUITE NY, we’re always looking for brands and manufacturers that are willing to push the envelope and try something new—and when it comes to innovation, Danish manufacturer Karakter is in a league of their own. Karakter’s lighting collection includes a diverse range of items designed across the span of several decades, but the commonality among all of them is that each design presents something entirely different than anything we’ve seen before. This week, we’re excited to share five lighting designs from Karakter’s collection, to help you lighten up, transform, innovate, and create something entirely new within your own space. |

LARI |
Angelo Mangiarotti |
Throughout his career, Angelo Mangiarotti produced countless iconic designs, drawing influence from architectural shapes and materials. The Lari Lamp shows Mangiarotti taking a simpler approach. The light is composed of mouth-blown glass in two shells, held together by the base, which also supports the light's electrical system. The size, shape, and texture of the Lari light work together to define a minimalist lamp with a slightly industrial appeal. Base in black lacquered aluminum and steel. |

DOMO FLOOR LAMP |
Joe Colombo |
Joe Colombo's portfolio is defined by experimentation with new materials and technologies, to create futuristic “machines for living,” and this ethos has carried his work from decade to decade for more than 50 years. Timeless and elegant, the Domo Floor Lamp was designed in 1965, but its beautiful mid-century charm remains incredibly tasteful, even in more contemporary spaces. Ideal for warmly illuminating living rooms, lounges, bedrooms, and even office spaces, Domo offers a stylish solution that feels appropriate for almost any space and accommodates a wide variety of tastes and preferences. Available in sleek lacquered brass or sophisticated black-painted steel. |

TRIPOD |
Aldo Bakker |
Paring a lamp down to its most basic essentials, the Tripod light is an exercise in the idea that minimalist design doesn’t have to lack character. While Tripod has removed any ornate or extraneous additions that one might potentially add to a lamp, Tripod’s sleek mouth-blown shade and unique, rounded silhouette provide personality and depth in a way that feels effortless and refreshing. Because each individual Tripod light is made of mouth-blown glass, no lamp is identical to another. Available in clear or smoked glass. |

AIDA |
Angelo Mangiarotti |
Not just another lighting design by Angelo Mangiarotti, Aida is simply a masterpiece. This timeless light juxtaposes different colors, shapes, and materials to create a lamp that appears to be defying gravity, and remains utterly timeless more than three decades after its inception. Beautiful and sculptural, Aida creates a soft indirect light and references signature concepts commonly found in Mangiarotti’s architecture—slim, elegant pillars that support large and heavy ceilings in an almost impossible lift. This lack of balance defines a uniquely modern and geometric lighting design, making the Aida Lamp a perfect statement piece. Base in black lacquered steel, arm in black lacquered aluminum, glass shade in polycarbonate. |

LAB LIGHT TABLE |
Anatomy Design |
The Lab Light came about from the designers' fascination with laboratory equipment, and was uniquely inspired by the clamps, levers, and machinery commonly found in laboratory settings. While not the most common influence for elegant design, this unique source of inspiration turned out to be the perfect place to start designing a multi-functional lamp. The result is an incredibly stylish light, characterized by its incorporation of various materials, including brass, steel, and porcelain, which work harmoniously to create a beautiful light with a tastefully industrial edge. Also available as a floor lamp. |
