This year, Artek celebrates 90 years of forward-thinking design. Founded in 1935 by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl, the Finnish company was created as a platform for modernism, where art and technology would meet to improve everyday life. Today, Artek remains rooted in those ideals. The brand continues to produce pieces that balance function and form, tradition and innovation. At SUITE NY, we are proud to represent Artek, and this week, we honor their legacy by highlighting a few of the designs that define it.
STOOL 60
Alvar Aalto

Perhaps Artek’s most iconic design, Stool 60 was created by Aalto in 1933 and continues to be produced in Finland today. The three-legged construction is made from solid birch with a veneered top, and its simple stackable form has made it a staple in homes, schools, galleries, and libraries around the world. Available in many versions, including a SUITE NY exclusive, Loimu.

ARMCHAIR 400 "TANK"
Alvar Aalto
Alvar Aalto’s Tank Chair, designed in 1936, gets its name from the wide, heavy armrests that anchor the piece. The frame, made from bent birch lamella, showcases Aalto’s patented wood bending technique, while the generous seat and backrest offer a grounded sense of ease. Originally presented at the Milan Triennale, the chair remains one of his most sculptural and distinctive works.
ARMCHAIR 45
Alvar Aalto
Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1947, Armchair 45 returns to Artek's collection to bring warmth and refinement to contemporary interiors. Its gently curved birch frame is upholstered in quilted leather while the seat angle has been slightly decreased, resulting in added comfort. Available in a range of finish combinations, including the luxurious option of piped leather-wrapped armrests.
TEA TROLLEY 901
Alvar Aalto
Inspired by British tea culture and Japanese woodwork, Aalto’s Tea Trolley 901 blends playfulness with refinement. The large wheels allow it to move easily between rooms, while the slatted birch frame and dual shelves offer both structure and openness. Whether used for serving or storage, it brings a sense of quiet utility to modern interiors. Also available in black lacquer finish.

DOMUS LOUNGE CHAIR
Ilmari Tapiovaara
Originally designed in 1946 for the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki, the Domus Lounge Chair by Ilmari Tapiovaara reflects a deep understanding of both form and function. Crafted with curved plywood and solid wood detailing, it offers generous proportions and an inviting recline. The slightly angled backrest and wide armrests provide comfort without bulk. Decades later, it continues to embody the approachable sophistication that defines Artek’s design legacy. Also available with an upholstered seat.
