Hygge (hyg·ge - pronounced hue-guh): a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).

This lovely word connects in an incredibly profound way with the Danish way of life, which has undoubtedly influenced and informed Scandinavian design over the course of history. It also points to something that almost all of us try to accomplish in the spaces we occupy; creating a sense of warmth, comfort, and coziness that allows our houses to truly feel like home. This week, we’re highlighting five items to bring more hygge into your life.

BM0865 DAYBED
Børge Mogensen

The BM0865 simply exudes comfort. Though the design was born 1958, BM0865 feels undeniably elegant and perfectly appropriate in contemporary spaces, as it beckons you to lie down and unwind. While the design in and of itself is incredibly stylish, the daybed’s modular nature leaves room for virtually endless possibilities and configurations, allowing you to incorporate this stunning design into spaces of any size or shape. BM0865 looks beautiful in lounge spaces, but also makes a fantastic addition to guest rooms, offering supreme comfort and relaxation to friends and visitors.

STAY LOUNGE
Space Copenhagen

The Stay Collection has a sculptural and organic shape that embraces the sitter and encourages them to stay seated; and in stunning sheepskin, this impressive lounge chair becomes even more enticing. Enveloping you in unmatched comfort and coziness, the Stay Lounge offers a wonderfully contemporary chair, suitable for homes, offices, and commercial spaces and capable of pairing with a wide range of tastes and preferences. The design’s fully upholstered nature adds a sense of softness and provides an opportunity for your fabric selections to truly shine, while the chair’s rounded edges allow the Stay Lounge to feel even more comfortable.

DEWDROPS
Giopato & Coombes

One night, design duo Christiana Giopato and Christopher Coombes were strolling through the park and found themselves inspired by the dewdrops on blades of grass, glistening as they reflected the subtle light of the moon. Dewdrops is this moment brought to life—an abstract interpretation of one of nature’s most beautiful patterns, something we see every day but often take for granted. In keeping with Giopato & Coombe’s portfolio of unique and forward-thinking lighting designs, Dewdrops' structure and silhouette are exceptionally innovative. Defined by a sophisticated visual lightness, this balancing mobile lighting structure emits soft light and is available in two configurations.

GRID RUG
Woodnotes Design Team

Grid is a warm and inviting hand-woven rug. The pattern which gives the rug its name adds character, and its bi-colored design creates a playful sense of space and depth. By its very nature, Grid effortlessly adds a sense of coziness to any room, and each corner is decorated with a braided wool fringe which can be removed if desired. Like most of Woodnotes' collection, Grid is versatile enough to fit beautifully in both traditional and contemporary environments, and its unique pattern adds personality and expression wherever it is placed. Grid is made of 90% wool and 10% cotton, and available in four different sizes for increased personalization and versatility.

WIRE TABLE
Ole Schjøll

Originally designed in 1984, it would be 34 years until the Wire Table was brought to life by Danish manufacturer A. Petersen. The unqiue intersection of shapes in the table's wire base adds a sense of personality to an otherwise minimalist design, adding to its overall character and noteworthy presence. Additionally, the use of slim, steel wire for the base creates a sense of visual lightness. In red, the Wire Table adopts a warmth and elegance that allows this industrially-influenced design to fit effortlessly into your hygge-inspired space, allowing you to enjoy meals, company, or a glass of wine in perfect comfort.
