Bouclé -- a fabric made from yarn with a looped ply. It may sound simple, but it certainly shouldn’t be underestimated. While typically associated with apparel, Bouclé can be incorporated into furniture or used in upholstery to create elegant, unique, and textured designs. This week, we’re highlighting designs spanning seven decades that showcase the exceptional versatility and dynamic character of bouclé, all currently on display at our Park Avenue showroom.

RAILBACK SOFA
Mel Smilow, 1950

The contrast of bouclé upholstery against the gorgeous natural walnut frame creates a beautiful, earthy contrast, both visually and texturally. Designed by iconic New York furniture designer, Mel Smilow, Railback’s mid-century appeal feels just as relevant today as it did in 1950 when it was originally designed, reminding us why we refer to Smilow designs as “enduring modern classics.”

STAY LOUNGE
Space Copenhagen, 2015

Ultra chic and ultra plush, Stay Lounge is the ultimate modern seating solution. Fully upholstered, Stay presents an ideal opportunity to showcase just how stunning bouclé upholstery can look. Suitable for both public spaces and private homes, its small footprint fits conveniently into spaces with limited square footage while keeping coziness and comfort a priority. Available with optional swivel base, as well as a larger version for more spacious settings.

GMG CHAISE
Greta Grossman 1951 | 2018

Perfectly angled for lounging, the shape, and structure of the GMG Chaise mirror the body’s natural curves for optimal relaxation. The chaise seems to float upon its distinctive metal legs, while the bouclé cushion lends itself to provide supreme comfort. Representing a link between European design and American modernism, Grossman combined her Swedish fondness for form and texture with a design meant for bright and open spaces.

LOAFER SOFA
Space Copenhagen, 2019

The SAS Royal Hotel turned to Space Copenhagen founders, Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, when searching for a new contemporary addition to their iconic Arne Jacobsen designed hotel—the result: The Loafer. Striking and elegant, this stunning series includes a lounge, dining, and sofa option offering a timeless addition to any interior. Whether for an exclusive hotel, club or lounge, or a private living space, Loafer offers the ultimate in luxury—the freedom to lounge in style forever.

LITTLE PETRA
Viggo Boesen, 1938 | 2018

Bouclé has never looked more stylish—or more inviting—than it does on the Little Petra chair. Initially introduced back in 1938, Little Petra won instant praise at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, subsequently winning awards at exhibits in New York and Berlin. Named after designer Viggo Boesen’s mother-in-law, Little Petra embodies the essence of a lounge chair, allowing for all kinds of cozy seating positions in a variety of settings. Extensive work has gone into ensuring the utmost comfort, and the result is an endearing lounge chair that beckons you to stay.
