GABRIELLA CRESPI |
February 17th, 1922 - February 14th, 2017 |
Born in 1922, Italian artist and designer Gabriella Crespi lived life as a cultural staple, exhibiting an effortless, elegant, and eclectic sense of style which can be seen in all of her designs. During her lifetime, her exclusive Bohemian 72 pieces were only ever produced for private clients—but today, five decades after they were initially conceived, GUBI has worked from Crespi’s original drawings to bring this stunning collection into production for the first time. |

BOHEMIAN 72 LOUNGE |
Gabriella Crespi |
Drawn to rattan for its strength and versatility, Crespi conceived the lounge chair at a time when the material was considered incredibly stylish and sophisticated—but her use of repeating layers of vertically coiled rattan vines was entirely innovative, and resulted in a distinctive and highly luxurious take on lounge furniture that has proven truly timeless. The bent rattan cane has been stained with antique color and finished with a gloss coating, which adds warmth, consistency, and continuity from one design to the next. A strikingly sophisticated addition to both indoor and outdoor settings, the lounge chair features smooth, rounded curves which provide a sense of gentleness and fluidity to the design, while incorporating a generous 115º incline to encourage an incomparably relaxing lounge experience.

BOHEMIAN 72 OTTOMAN |
Gabriella Crespi |
The obvious companion to the Crespi lounge and sofa, the Crespi ottoman allows you to put your feet up and enjoy everything that this elegant collection has to offer. Much like the rest of the Bohemian 72 designs, the pouf serves as a reminder of the high level of craftsmanship demanded to recreate Crespi’s original works, as the rattan canes must be steamed and then bent by hand. Because it is a natural material, standardizing rattan is incredibly complicated—color, texture, and dimension differ from vine to vine, introducing another level of skill to the production process. The result is undeniable—a beautiful and approachable ottoman that stands in a league of its own.

BOHEMIAN 72 SOFA |
Gabriella Crespi |
Expanding upon the concept of the Crespi Lounge, the Crespi Sofa introduces a new element of relaxation into the collection. The sofa’s base is constructed out of long, continuous pieces of rattan cane, which showcase the captivating natural qualities of this versatile material. Plump, lavish cushions provide astounding comfort while juxtaposing harmoniously with the strong, natural base. In addition to exhibiting profound style, the Crespi sofa carries a sense of longevity and timelessness, an enduring statement piece meant to be cherished from one generation to the next.

BOHEMIAN 72 FLOOR LAMP |
Gabriella Crespi |
To describe Crespi’s floor lamp as “a lamp unlike any other” would hardly do it justice—encased entirely in rattan strips, this design is the pinnacle of Crespi’s creativity, innovation, and ingenuity. An entirely unexpected take on the floor lamp, the light’s shade is composed of a vertical arrangement of rattan cane with brass detailing. The pattern of the strips allows the lamp to cast a beautifully delicate play of light and shade on the floor around it, inspiring an atmosphere of rustic warmth. Whether placed indoors or outdoors, the design is evocative of a magical, ambient moment from a bygone era, while still remaining wonderfully current.
