Over the past few decades, sustainability has become so much more than a trend. It’s a driving ethos, and a way of being, to ensure that while we enjoy all the beautiful things that life has to offer, we’re not doing so at the expense of the planet. And as the climate crisis continues to remain front and center in global news, what better time than now to showcase stunning, eco-conscious designs from designers and manufacturers around the world. This week, we’re excited to share five designs that offer style, elegance, functionality and sustainability for the home or workplace.

EGG™
Arne Jacobsen
Iconic. Timeless. Visionary. All of these words are commonly used to describe Arne Jacobsen’s career-defining Egg Chair, which has influenced decades of design and received seemingly endless critical acclaim. However, you might be surprised that the word “sustainable” could also be used to accurately describe this elegant design. In re-wool upholstery, the Egg Chair utilizes gorgeous, eco-friendly wool, which incorporates surplus and previously used wool material to create a chair that is not just aesthetically stunning, but considerate toward the planet as well—and really, there’s nothing more stylish than caring.
EMBLA
Elsa Ekdal & Anne Skoug

Simple and stylish, Embla is a timeless and effortless occasional table. The combination of solid wood and glass plate create an elegant juxtaposition of contrasting materials, while the two levels add convenience and functionality. Whether used for additional serving space, or as an opportunity to display decorative items, the two tiers simply allow Embla to do more. Embla, like all of Garsnas’ designs, is certified by Möbelfakta, a sustainability standard for Swedish furniture. This certification is not easily earned—it means that Embla has to meet rigorous technical, environmental, and social responsibility standards—and proves that beauty and elegance can exist in harmony with sustainability.

SVS RUGS
Salem Van Der Swaagh

Sustainability and softness don’t have to be mutually exclusive—and in fact, they come together in perfect harmony in the SVS Rugs. Salem Van Der Swaagh is a textile designer who is committed to creating products that have both environmental and social impact. Elegant and innovative, each rug is hand-woven, ensuring that none is exactly the same as another, creating entirely one-of-a-kind pieces. The combination of textures, pearl color, and fringed edges work together to harmoniously define a rug that feels both timeless and contemporary, and looks sophisticated and stylish in spaces of any style and size. The SVS Rugs are also eco-friendly; each rug is designed and hand-woven in Berlin using 100% salvaged material from industrial weaving which is then repurposed into highly textured, luxurious wool products.

KIN TINY
Mathias Hahn

Zeitraum was founded on the premise that quality, design, and sustainability should always go hand in hand—and they haven’t wavered from their commitment. Showcasing the magnificence, versatility, and longevity of solid wood furniture, Zeitraum’s combination of devoted eco-consciousness, impeccable style, and skilled craftsmanship come together masterfully in the Kin Tiny. Kin Tiny is an effortlessly chic nightstand that adds a sense of modernity and stylishness to virtually any bedroom. While Kin’s exterior blends seamlessly into bedrooms of all tastes and preferences, the inner design of each piece can be customized to fit the specific needs of the surrounding space. Available in oak, walnut, or color stained oak.

N02™ RECYCLE
Nendo

N02 is a wonderfully modern chair, made of recycled plastic that can even be recycled again if necessary. The plastic used for N02™ Recycle comes from household plastic waste, which is collected, processed and upcycled in central Europe, reducing transportation. Truly an exercise is sustainable design, N02’s process reminds us that sustainability can occur at every level of the design process, not just in the materials we use. As the brand explains, “It was not easy to create a recycled and recyclable chair that meets Fritz Hansen’s quality standards, but the result was worth all the experiments and hours spent brainstorming.” Shell available in seven colors.
